Senior IP Routing Engineer
The candidate will be responsible for defining the global IP strategy for Orange Botswana’s Mobile Packet Backbone Network (MPBN), Internet (ISP Core), Core Network, IT LAN/WAN, and Transmission IP networks. They will ensure that the proposed roadmap and associated milestones are meticulously implemented and executed to support the business strategy. The role holder guarantees appropriate capacity dimensioning on the IP Networks, overseeing the planning, deployment, and optimization of IP networks
The main duties include but are not limited to:
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of IP networks to ensure efficient network performance.
- Manage the budget (CAPEX and OPEX) and procurement of IP systems.
- Lead and create the global strategy definition for the OBW IP network (MPBN, ISP, IP Fabric, and Transmission IP networks/metro).
- Work with the engineering teams to manage the end-to-end think and build of OBW IP domains.
- Manage projects within the IP Network to ensure excellent execution within agreed timelines and on budget.
- Proposes ways to optimize the existing IP network using existing equipment or new equipment to build a robust and resilient IP network where necessary
- To document and maintain a robust IP network assets database to manage the equipment obsolescence.
- Keep up-to-date on relevant competitive solutions, products, and services
- Perform in-depth technical presentations and proposals
- In-depth knowledge and experience in many areas of specialization, including IGP, BGP, MPLS VPN, EVPN, Security, QoS, Collaboration, SD-WAN, Wireless, and Server virtualization.
- Basicknowledge of baseline skills (Routing and Switching, Cloud, Data Center Solutions, SDN/NFV, Container Network, Security technologies)
- Consult and develop the OBW IP Network strategy in conjunction with the global network strategy and business ambitions.
- Defines the different milestones and associated costs needed to execute the IP Network strategy.
- Works hand in hand with the engineering team to manage the end-to-end Core IP think and Validate the IP solutions from the suppliers and ensure alignment to the budget
- Manages suppliers during the projects executions and works closely with other stakeholders to ensure Project delivery is done timely and within Budget
- Documents all IP-related activities: the IP strategy, planning information, up-to-date Core IP architecture.
- Manage the budget (CAPEX and OPEX) and procurement of IP systems.
- Work with the Group to validate the supplier-proposed Equipment/solution & costs.
- Work with the managed services provider on the IP operations build activities
Skills:
- Excellent IP skills, Excellent knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, ISIS, OSPF)
- Good understanding of switches, Firewalls, routers
- Excellent knowledge and experience in working with IP equipment and technology, routers, switches, firewalls,etc
- Excellent IP planning skills
- Ability to work with confidential information and also under pressure
- Excellent customer and QoS oriented
- Excellent team player
- Result oriented
- Very good analytical skills and with a good idea for detail
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Computer Engineering /Telecommunications / Computer Science.
- A Masters Degree would be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a telecommunications environment.
