A team of two youthful men, Badisa Mosesane and Kesego Tumisang, as well as their mentor, Kagiso Ndlovu were announced as the winners of the 2018 edition of the Orange Social Venture National Prize, as their project, Child Welfare and Nutrition Monitoring App (MPEPU) came out victorious. The team was handed a cheque of BWP 50,000 at an award ceremony held at the new Orange Botswana Head office in the Central Business District. The second and third positions were awarded to Tradesman’s App and Thebe Trunk who walked away with P30 000 and P20 000 respectively.

The mobile application will make it possible for clinicians to access specific child growth charts quickly and easily through the use of mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. This will be made possible by the use of algorithms run by the system to diagnose whether the child is malnourished, has stunt growth or any other child related weaknesses. The application will also be used in remote areas where there is weak to no internet connectivity, further allowing clinical professionals to give every child the best care possible.

The Orange Social Venture Prize is an Orange Group initiative that seeks to boost and encourage start-ups in Africa to develop innovative projects that promote and enhance development in the region. This year’s competition is expected to kick-start on Monday 11th March. For more info visit - https://entrepreneurclub.orange.com/en/
