Safety Health Environment Officer

The role involves coordinating Safety and Health initiatives and offering onsite support for all Health and Safety matters across the organisation. Additionally, it is responsible for establishing, managing, and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure compliance with Health and Safety responsibilities throughout the organisation.


The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Implement and maintain the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Program in
  • accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Serve as a resource to all departments and assists departments with SHE standards;
  • provide consultation, guidance and assistance on matters related to workplace safety.
  • Ensures that the company policies and procedures and statutory requirements
  • pertaining to SHE are communicated and enforced.
  • Identifies, assesses and reports possible risks within processes. Limits risk by
  • adhering to risk controls, reducing process variations, managing exceptions and ensuring compliance with risk management procedures.
  • Ensures prompt response to fires and other emergencies by relevant suppliers. 
  • Compiles, implements and communicates SHE policies, procedures and standards.
  • Conduct SHE inductions and deliver appropriate SHE training to employees, outsource and visitors. 
  • Acts as a Safety Advocate who demonstrates excellent safety behaviour and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and promotes hazard reporting and ensures effective safety reporting at all levels in the organisation. 
  • Accountable for delivery of service providers; ensures delivery of services according to agreed service levels. 
  • Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and outsource. 
  • Contributes to budgeting process and manages within agreed budget according to internal financial and accounting policies, processes, controls and record-keeping procedures. 
  • Investigates and analyses accidents/incidents and recommends appropriate action.
  • Prepare reports and maintain proper documentation to conform to documents and records keeping requirements. 
  • Maintains Orange Botswana’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP)/Manual procedures; organizes the appropriate training, drills and exercises in the organisation.
  • Conduct regular SHE audits and inspections of the premises, including the inspection of facilities, worksites, equipment, work practices and safety devices to ensure with it is aligned with required workplace standards, regulations and procedures.
  • Arranges occupational hygiene surveys in accordance with departmental procedures and ensures implementation of recommendations thereof. 
  • Collates and disseminates all relevant Safety Information Bulletins and Publications in the organisation. 
  • Ensures adherence to the SHE policy and procedures. 
  • Develops short term plans (considering options in terms of resource availability, timing, and cost) to maximise impact of current processes and systems and remove barriers and risks.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in occupational health and safety. A Master’s Degree would be an added advantage
  • 3-4 years post qualification experience in Safety and Health function.
  • Understanding of environment and health and safety management systems.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Driver's License
