Compliance Specialist

The Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting the design, implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the organisation’s compliance framework ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and supervisory expectations. The role provides second-line oversight, regulatory interpretation and advisory support to the business.

 


The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interpret applicable laws, regulations, supervisory guidance, and regulatory communications. 
  • Provide compliance advice to business units on products, services, and operational activities.
  • Support the assessment and implementation of regulatory changes.
  • Maintain and update the Compliance Risk Assessment (CRA) using a risk-based approach.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor key compliance risks and controls.
  • Support the development and tracking of compliance risk indicators.
  • Develop, review, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and standards. 
  • Ensure policies remain aligned with regulatory expectations and business practices.
  • Support governance forums through reporting, papers, and compliance updates.
  • Design and execute compliance monitoring plans. 
  • Perform thematic reviews and targeted testing of compliance controls. 
  • Track findings, remediation actions, and follow-ups to closure.
  • Support preparation of regulatory submissions, responses, and ongoing communications. 
  • Assist with regulatory examinations, inspections, and information requests.
  • Maintain records of regulatory interactions and commitments
  • Support the development and delivery of compliance training and awareness initiatives.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture across the organisation

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Law, Finance, Risk, Compliance, or related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a compliance or regulatory role Experience within a regulated environment (e.g. financial services, payments, fintech) 
  • Commercial Banking experience will be an added advantage
