CSR at Orange Botswana
Orange Botswana has always had great programs concerning corporate social responsibility. These programs just to name a few were introduced in a very interactive manner to the public. This company has always looked at a more refreshed, innovative, yet simple and interesting ways of engaging themselves as Orange and their development of their community in which they live.
In no particular order of occurrence I would like to just have a brief overview of the past programmes.
Kabelano Charity Cup
This initiative was established in the backdrop of the devastating Palapye floods, the vision was to raise funds for the welfare, relief and care of the poor and aged - hence the name (Kabelano). In Setswana this means giving. With the avid soccer lovers in Botswana this was the one day where a one day soccer tournament would fund raise for charity.
In 2001 the then Vista Cellular company which had a minority shareholding from Orange group joined in this initiative. The cup grew from strength to strength and we are proud along with our patrons that Orange has been an active catalyst through their annually contribution or sponsorship of half a million pula in the raising of the breathtaking 1 million pula mark that was celebrated recently on the 9th October 2007 at the Phakalane Golf Estate with the presence of his excellency the President of Botswana Hon Gontebanye Mogae.
The trust with the aid of Orange has had the opportunity to reach out to the public in many ways more than one and has touched the lives of many. Like the phrase goes blessed is the hand that giveth, at Orange we feel blessed to be able to give back so much to the enhancement of this nation by reaching the needy.
Orange Youth Cup
The youth cup was initiated in Francistown as the Voice cup. Orange came on board to assist with the sponsoring the program to the tune of 140000.00 pula. This initiative was geared on previous years by the Voice alongside the facilitation of Botswana Football Association actively engaging 16 teams of U12's from various districts in Botswana.
This initiative enables the Botswana Football Association to knit pick around 50 kids that they can recruit for the school of excellence and then develops the kids into future Zebras feeding the national squad.
The Orange Youth Cup is not just an engaging soccer spectacular for U12's but it is a national cup to our future soccer stars in Botswana and as always Orange is happy to be at the helm of giving back to the kids and their much loved sports.
